An officer on a fixed post detail heard approximately 20 shots fired at the store directly across 7th Street from the station. The officer responded and located multiple shell casings and a victim who had been shot in the arm. OPD responded and took over the investigation. BART officers assisted in searching a vacant lot near the area, but the suspect was not located.

Officers responded to the station regarding the report of a male suspect having struck a male victim about the face with a wooden trekking pole during a child custody exchange. The incident, reported by the victim’s current girlfriend, further escalated as the suspect punched the child’s grandmother; and then veered his “burnt orange” colored Chevrolet Suburban towards the grandmother in an apparent attempt at striking her. BART and Hayward officers unsuccessfully searched for the suspect, who is reportedly transient. The investigating officer requested station video and canvassed the nearby neighborhood for potential video evidence of the assault(s). The male victim suffered a non-life threatening injury to his left eye and was transported (via ambulance) to a local hospital for further medical attention. The second victim/grandmother was not injured. Local agencies were notified of the incident, via BOL.

An officer on routine patrol was flagged down by a citizen who reported that a male suspect who was being sought by Oakland PD for a stabbing earlier today was in the station bus zone. The officer confirmed that OPD was looking for the suspect and coordinated a response by BART and OPD units. The suspect was reportedly bi-polar and armed with a knife, and was believed to have stabbed his father earlier today at a residence in Oakland. The male suspect was taken into custody on the station access road by OPD officers without incident.

A female victim reported that her former boyfriend had robbed her of her purse in the parking lot of the station. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and tried to force her to get into his car, but she resisted. In the struggle, the suspect choked the victim, who bit the suspect's arm and pulled free. Bystanders intervened and the suspect drove off. Responding officers were unable to locate the suspect or his vehicle in the area. The victim was transported to Highland Hospital for treatment. Possible addresses for the suspect were found in Hayward and Walnut Creek. Those agencies were notified and provided with the suspect's name and vehicle description. Investigation continues. TSOC notified.

Brandishing Knife/Emergency Psychiatric Detention

Powell St. - 1604-0040

Patrons on board the Millbrae bound train reported that a male suspect was acting erratically and brandishing a knife, while making verbal threats. The suspect fled on foot, dropping the knife, when officers arrived. Officers captured the suspect on the street above the station. None of the witnesses wished to pursue a criminal complaint against the suspect. Officers determined the suspect was in need of emergency psychiatric detention. The suspect was transported to SF General Hospital for evaluation and treatment. The train was delayed about 5 minutes as a result of this incident. There were no injuries. TSOC notified.

The mother of a 12 year old victim called to report that her son was robbed at gunpoint, about 20 minutes earlier. The suspect brandished a gun at the victim and forced him part-way down the stairs leading to the concourse, where he took the victim's wallet from his pocket. When the suspect demanded the victim's backpack, the victim refused and shoved the suspect, before running to the bus zone, where he boarded a waiting bus. It is not known where the suspect went after the offense. Responding officers checked the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate him. The suspect was described as a black male in his 20's, wearing all black clothing and white Jordan basketball shoes.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a female suspect who threw a large tree branch at two women (who are at the station on a regular basis, handing out religious materials). The victims were not struck or injured. Officers arrived and contacted the female suspect and recovered the large tree branch. The victims had left the area, but left their contact information. Officers were unable to get in touch with the victims, but they determined that the suspect was a danger to others and in need of psychiatric evaluation. The officers placed the suspect on a psychiatric hold with criminal charges pending and issued her a prohibition order. They will continue to attempt to get in touch with the victims.

Several patrons on board the Dublin bound train reported that a male suspect was stabbing seats on the train with a knife. The suspect got off the train at Bay Fair Station and began walking around the platform with the knife in his hand. Officers detained the man and recovered the knife. No complainants came forward regarding the vandalism, and no victims were located for any other crimes. Officers determined that the man was intoxicated in public and he was arrested. The suspect was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

Two victims were at the station to purchase an item advertised on Craigslist, but the victims were met by two suspects who robbed the victims at gun point before fleeing in a vehicle. The loss included the victims' phones and cash. Responding officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle nearby in Hayward and evidence was collected. The suspects were described as #1 Black Male 5'10", 180 pounds, wearing blue jeans and white shoes. #2 Black Male, 6'3", 180 pounds, wearing sunglasses and a blue hoodie.

Patrons complained to the station agent about a male in the station who appeared to be looking at females through binoculars. An officer contacted the adult male and determined that he is on probation. The officer conducted a probation search but the suspect resisted and struggled with the officer. During the struggle, the suspect dropped a firearm on the ground, which turned out to be a replica. With the assistance of two sergeants, the officer was able to handcuff the suspect. A search of his person revealed a small amount of suspected heroin and credit cards/identification not belonging to the suspect. Further investigation will be conducted regarding the credit cards and identification. The suspect was taken into custody, given a prohibition order and transported to Santa Rita Jail to be booked on the listed charges.

An officer contacted an adult male for fare evasion and discovered that he had a no bail warrant for assault with a deadly weapon. The male was taken into custody for the warrant and searched incident to arrest. He was also found to be in possession of a sock with a metal object inside that could be used as a weapon. He was issued a citation for fare evasion and booked into the Glenn Dyer Jail for the warrant and weapon charge.

While on patrol, an officer heard 7-8 gunshots coming from the nearby housing area at 70th Ave. and Lyon Way, Oakland. A short time later, the officer was flagged-down by witnesses who relayed that the (5) suspects, described as Black males wearing gray and red colored hoodies, were fleeing on 70th Ave. - towards International Blvd. A short time later, Oakland Police Officers safely detained two of the suspects. No shooting victims were reported, and it appears the suspects only fired into the air.

An anonymous patron reported a male suspect possibly engaged in a lewd act near the station on a pedestrian path. An officer located the male in a vehicle in the area. A female was also located nearby and determined to be with the male. During the contact, the female allowed the officer to retrieve her identification from the car. While getting her purse, the officer saw a handgun on the floor, near the driver. The driver was taken into custody for possession of the firearm and for having ammunition in close proximity to the handgun. The female was identified and released. The male was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for the weapons violations.

A community service officer (J. Rosete) saw four (4) Black male suspects, one of whom produced a black semi-automatic handgun, surround a male victim and take his iPhone, hover-board, backpack, wallet and $80.00 in cash. The suspects then fled with the victim’s property toward the nearby apartment housing complex. The suspects, all of whom were identified as 16-18 years of age, were individually identified as follows: Suspect #1 (with the handgun) – 5’-6” or 5’7” tall; dark complexion with scar on the left side of his face; wearing a black T-shirt and blue shorts; suspect #2 - wearing a black T-shirt and gray jacket; suspect #3 – wearing a black T-shirt; gray sweatshirt. The primary investigating officer was not able to track the victim’s cell phone. The victim was not injured. Station video was requested. TSOC notified (TSATSA 03-05725-16).

A female victim reported that she was pulled from her silver 2012 Mercedes ML 350 and forced to the ground at rifle point by two male suspects. The suspects took the woman's purse and fled in her vehicle in an unknown direction. The suspects were described only as two black males, 18-20 years old, wearing dark clothing. Responding officers were unable to locate the vehicle in the area. The crime information was shared with San Leandro PD and CHP.

Concord PD reported that a possible stabbing had occurred at the station. Officers responded and located a male with a small cut to his upper arm. The man was well known as a chronic offender at Concord Station. The apparent victim refused to cooperate with the investigation and was treated at John Muir hospital for a 2" cut to his arm. The incident apparently occurred in the Clayton Road parking lot, but no witnesses came forward and no suspect information was available. It is not known how the victim suffered his injury. The victim was treated and released.

Officers responded to reports of an adult male stabbing someone on the concourse level of the station, near the Bloomingdale Department store's entrance. On arrival, the officers located an adult female/victim suffering from several lacerations to her face. Through witness accounts, and the assistance of mall security, BART officers then arrested the male suspect nearby and recovered what is believed to be the weapon used in the attack. The suspect was also found to be in possession of several other weapons, including a loaded handgun. The victim, who was transported to SF General Hospital, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Subsequently, the suspect was booked into the county jail for assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed firearm. A sergeant, detective and a crime scene technician responded as well. TSOC notified.

An officer responded to the platform regarding a male suspect threatening a BART employee, brandishing a knife and pounding on a terminal zone window with his hands. The officer managed to safely detain the suspect as an assisting officer and sergeant responded as well. Further investigation determined that the suspect, who was upset after claiming to have left personal property aboard a train, threatened to batter a train operator while also brandishing a knife. During this time, a second BART employee approached the terminal zone office and the suspect threatened this employee as well, while also brandishing the knife and then battering the (second) employee with a backpack. The suspect was placed under arrest for criminal threats, brandishing a weapon, battery and issued a BART prohibition order. He was then booked into the county jail. The BART employees were not injured during this incident. Platform video was requested, and the sergeant performed a use of force investigation.

Homicide

West Oakland - 1601-1620

At about 19:45, multiple witnesses reported that a suspect who was riding on a SFO Airport bound train approaching West Oakland Station used a handgun to shoot another passenger multiple times and then fled on foot from the train at West Oakland Station. Officers responded and assisted with providing first aid to the victim. West Oakland Station was closed while the investigation was conducted and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, a suspect has not been arrested and the weapon has not been recovered. Detectives and evidence technicians responded to assist with the investigation. The suspect was described as a black male, late 20's to early 30's, 6'2" skinny build with broad shoulders, scruffy face, wearing a long green trench coat over dark hoodie with hood up, dark pants, dark backpack, armed with a black semi auto handgun.

A male subject reported that another male subject brandished a knife at him while on board a train. A station agent at Macarthur reported seeing the suspect come down from the Richmond platform then proceed to the SF platform. Trains were held as officers responded. Upon arrival, and while waiting for cover, an officer saw the suspect and confronted him. The suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of arriving cover officers without incident. A knife was recovered from the suspect. Officers attempted to contact the victim but he refused to cooperate or give a statement. The suspect was determined mentally ill and transported for psychiatric evaluation.

BART and Berkeley officers responded to the Ashby Station for a report of a male and a female in a physical struggle. The physical struggle escalated and the female brandished a pair of scissors. The male brandished a knife and stabbed the female in the head, causing a scalp laceration. A review of captured video footage showed the male appeared to have acted in self-defense. Both parties were identified and the case will be submitted to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. An ID tech and on-call detective responded for the case.

An anonymous reporting party stated he heard saw a couple fighting in the parking lot and heard gun shots at the Pittsburg Station. Officers arrived on scene and checked the area but with negative results. John Muir Hospital in Concord called BART Police and reported they were treating a victim of an attempted carjacking that occurred at the Pittsburg Station. An officer responded to interview the victim. An ID Tech was called out to collect evidence and the On-Call Detective was notified. All notifications were made. Officers searched the area for evidence where the incident occurred.

A victim reported that a male suspect (BM, striped hoodie) approached him with a knife and demanded his laptop computer and cell phone as the train pulled into the Embarcadero Station. The male suspect took the items and fled out of the train and into the station. The victim stayed on the train and reported the crime at the Montgomery Station. The victim was not able to access the tracking feature of the devices. Train and station video will be requested.
