A foreign tourist had money snatched from their hand by an adult male suspect who fled on foot with the loss. Citizens chased the suspect and detained him until officers arrived at which time they determined that the suspect was gravely disabled due to a mental condition. The suspect was taken to the hospital where staff recognized him as a person who had been released just two hours earlier from a 5150 hold, the suspect was again placed on a 5150 hold. The victim declined prosecution as they were leaving the country tomorrow.

Disturbing the Peace / Battery on a Station Agent

Union City - 1009-0813

The station agent called BART Police to report that there was an adult male suspect at the station who was challenging the agent to a fight. As officers responded, the agent called back to report that the suspect had attempted to strike him and had spat on him. The suspect fell to the ground during the scuffle and injured his head and was transported to the hospital for his injury and extreme intoxication. The station agent was not injured and a complaint will be sought against the suspect for disturbing the peace and battery on a BART employee.

Two BART officers assisted the Piedmont Police Department at a DUI check-point funded through the Alameda County "Avoid the 21" Anti-DUI campaign. Officers conducted a concentrated traffic enforcement operation in the area around the Coliseum station to enhance safety in the area. During the three and a half hour operation, officers conducted 25 enforcement stops. 13 citations were issued, including 1 for an unlicensed driver and 2 for drivers driving on a suspended license. One of the drivers who had a suspended license had five active suspensions against his license. 2 vehicles were towed during the operation and a beat condition report was generated to address vegetation that was limiting visibility on the access road. The suspect was arrested, and during the arrest officers discovered a large quantity of suspected crack cocaine packaged for sale. Once the suspect's true identity was revealed, the officers discovered that the suspect was on parole for sales of narcotics. The suspect was arrested and booked for providing a false name and possession of narcotics for sale.

The train was intercepted and searched at the Coliseum station and a suspect was detained. The victim responded and positively identified the suspect and the monetary loss was recovered. The suspect is on parole for theft and gave a voluntary statement admitting involvement in a shell game. The suspect was booked for grand theft and a parole violation.
