Downtown Berkeley

Oakland Police requested the closure of the 12th Street station as demonstrators set fires at street side, above the station. The station was closed, as a safety measure, and train service was minimally impacted as the last hour or so of train service remained. BART Police sergeants and officers responded and assisted Oakland Officers with monitoring the demonstrators, who eventually dispersed. No injuries to police personnel or demonstrators were reported, and BART property was not damaged. L10

Officers in the lot heard what sounded like gunshots from the area of 69th & Snell. A gray Mercedes sedan fled from the area at a high rate of speed. Officers assisted with setting up a perimeter and searching for the vehicle. An officer located the vehicle at 69th & Lyon, but it was abandoned. No victims were located, and no suspects were found. The investigation was turned over to Oakland PD.

A citizen flagged an officer down on city streets and reported that white male was walking around the parking lot of a nearby Safeway store with a large knife in his hand. Officers checked the area and located a man matching the description walking toward the BART station bus zone. Officers detained the man and found that he had a large steak knife concealed in his waistband. Record checks also showed that he was on probation for burglary, out of Contra Costa County. Concord PD had no reports of any other crimes associated with the male suspect. Officers arrested the man for possession of a dirk/dagger. He was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility for possession of a dirk and probation violation.

While traveling on Highway 242, near Highway 4, an officer performed a traffic stop upon a 2003 Acura RSX in order to investigate a suspected DUI driver; a sergeant responded to assist the officer. California Highway Patrol officers arrived on scene a short time later and took custody of the male driver, who was eventually booked into the county jail.

El Cerrito del Norte - 1609-0136

While a sergeant and an officer handled a medical call in the south bus zone area of the station, they were contacted by a security officer who reported that two black male suspects had committed a robbery moments earlier at the nearby Safeway store, and were last seen fleeing on-foot towards the station. Shortly after receiving the report, assisting officers located and attempted to detain the suspects near the BART police substation, but both suspects ran away. A brief foot pursuit(s) ensued as the sergeant and officers managed to corner and, via physical force, detain the suspects. El Cerrito Police officers soon arrived on scene, along with the victim, and the suspects were positively identified as having committed the robbery. At this point, El Cerrito Police officers took custody of the suspects, and lieutenant responded to perform the use of force investigation. Three of the BART officers reported minor injuries, but did not require further medical attention. One of the suspects sustained a minor hand injury, which was discovered while in the custody of El Cerrito Police officers. The entire investigation was subsequently handled by El Cerrito Police.

Hayward Police Department requested the use of BART Police Department's K-9s to search for a residential burglary suspect. BART officers arrived on-scene, searched for the suspect and found him hiding in the rear yard of a residence. Hayward PD took custody of the suspect.

Dispatch received a call from Hayward PD regarding reports of shots fired near the Hayward BART Station. At the time of the report, three BART officers were in the bus zone and they did not hear any shots, but they did see two juveniles run into the station. Trains were held out while they contacted the two on the platform. The officers did not locate a weapon on the juveniles, but a .22 caliber revolver was located in a bag on the platform. Since a crime/shooting was never substantiated and the juveniles were not seen in possession of the gun, they were identified and released to their parents. The gun was kept for safe keeping/evidence and station video will be requested. TSOC was notified of the firearm recovery TSA-08-024921-16.

Officers were returning to their patrol car, when they contacted a male who was creating a disturbance by threatening to harm people on the street. The male was in possession of open bottles of alcohol. The officers determined the male was too intoxicated to care for himself and was booked at Santa Rite Jail.

BART officers reported hearing gunshots, at street level, between City Hall and the United Nations’ Plaza. Multiple San Francisco Police Officers then responded, and eventually detained a suspect on the nearby BART station’s platform. A gunshot victim was located at street level, and several firearms were also recovered. As the shooting occurred at street level, San Francisco Police handled the entire investigation. TSOC notified.

Officers responded to the station on a report of a carjacking that had just occurred. CHP transferred a cell phone call from the victim, who was advising that she had just been pulled from her vehicle, a light blue 15' Toyota Prius, by two suspects, in the parking lot in OPD's jurisdiction at 35th Ave/E.12th St. The victim described the suspects as two Black male juveniles, 17 yrs, well dressed in all black clothing. The victim was unable to provide a direction of flight of the suspects. The victim was not injured and said the suspects were not armed. Due to a shooting in OPD's jurisdiction, the report was taken by BART PD as an outside assist. OPD was notified.

A BART CSO on-viewed a black male, wearing a white tank top, standing on the corner of 71st Ave/Hawley St., fire 4 shots from a handgun. BART PD and OPD units quickly converged on the area, but were unable to locate the suspect or any victims. The CSO provided a witness statement to OPD.

A commercial burglary suspect who had stolen two computers on a previous occasion, returned to a business near the Concord Station to take more items. Security officers confronted him in the building and a struggle ensued. He was able to free himself and fled to the Concord BART Station, where he boarded a train. The train was intercepted at the Walnut Creek Station by a sergeant. The suspect was located and taken into custody without incident. Concord PD transported the victim to the station, where the suspect was identified as the responsible person and turned over to Concord PD officers.

San Francisco and BART officers responded to the station regarding multiple reports of a stabbing victim. The suspect (a Black male adult, wearing blue hospital-like pants) had reportedly fled from the station, via the 7th Street exit. Further investigation determined the stabbing occurred at street-level (San Francisco Police jurisdiction), near a café. San Francisco Police took over the investigation and the victim, who sustained non-life-threatening facial injuries, was transported to a local hospital. Train service was minimally impacted by this incident.

SFPD requested that trains be held at the station while they searched for two suspects in an armed robbery that had occurred on city streets. A sergeant who was on the platform saw two people who matched the suspect description on the platform. The robbery victim came into the station and also pointed out the two suspects. Officers detained both suspects without incident and turned them over to SFPD for investigation.

An officer made an outside traffic stop on a motorist that was driving erratically on west bound Highway 24. The driver was unresponsive and appeared to be under the influence of drugs/alcohol. After conducting an in-field investigation, the officer placed the driver under arrest for driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol. A sergeant responded and approved the arrest.

Officers detained a male adult whom they recognized as a burglary suspect wanted by the Daly City Police Department. A wants/warrants check of the suspect further revealed a $5K theft warrant, out of Contra Costa County, for his arrest. A subsequent search of the suspect also revealed he was in possession of illegal narcotics. Daly City investigators responded and took custody of the suspect.

An officer on a fixed post detail heard approximately 20 shots fired at the store directly across 7th Street from the station. The officer responded and located multiple shell casings and a victim who had been shot in the arm. OPD responded and took over the investigation. BART officers assisted in searching a vacant lot near the area, but the suspect was not located.

Officers responded to the station to meet with a female victim who had been robbed of her purse by two black males while walking on Hesperian Blvd. A Sergeant in the Dispatch Center observed via CCTV camera two males looking through a purse as they were entering the platform elevator of the station. BART Officers along with the San Leandro Police checked the platform and subsequently detained the two suspects. Both were positively identified by the victim and taken into custody by the San Leandro Police. The purse was recovered from the scene.

While on patrol, and officer was flagged down by a victim who stated that there was a suspect who tried to stab him. The officer spotted the possible suspect on Fruitvale and E. 12th St. and took him into custody at gunpoint with several Oakland Police Officers without incident. Further investigation revealed that the suspect may have been involved in a string of carjackings. The suspect, who was positively identified by the victim, was turned over to the Oakland Police. The victim was not injured.

Officers checked on a disturbance on the MUNI platform and contacted two males who had apparently been involved in a battery on the city streets. One of the males was too intoxicated to care for himself. The other male wished to place the intoxicated male under citizen's arrest for battery, so the intoxicated male was booked into the San Francisco County Jail for battery and public intoxication.

An officer on routine patrol was flagged down by a citizen who reported that a male suspect who was being sought by Oakland PD for a stabbing earlier today was in the station bus zone. The officer confirmed that OPD was looking for the suspect and coordinated a response by BART and OPD units. The suspect was reportedly bi-polar and armed with a knife, and was believed to have stabbed his father earlier today at a residence in Oakland. The male suspect was taken into custody on the station access road by OPD officers without incident.

A detective driving an unmarked police vehicle eastbound on Highway 4 in the city of Antioch saw a white Toyota Tundra drive up the shoulder of the road and sideswipe a green Nissan Armada. The Toyota failed to stop and exited at Hillcrest Avenue. The detective, believing the driver may be inebriated, followed. The Toyota drive northbound in the southbound lanes of Hillcrest, and then entered Highway 4 westbound. Believing the driver to be a threat to the motoring public, the detective tried to conduct a traffic enforcement stop, but the driver of the Toyota failed to yield. The detective followed the Toyota, while broadcasting its location so that CHP units could stop the vehicle. As the Toyota passed the Pittsburg BART station, a BART officer in a marked police vehicle intercepted the Toyota and conducted a traffic stop near the Willow Pass off-ramp. The female driver was detained and admitted that she had consumed a large amount of alcohol. The driver claimed she was diabetic, although paramedics could not find anything wrong with her. The driver of the Nissan contacted CHP independently to report the hit & run collision. CHP officers responded and took over the investigation of the felony hit & run and DUI violations. The driver of the Toyota will be booked by CHP once she is medically cleared.

An officer made contact with the victim who reported being stunned with a taser, while aboard an A/C Transit bus, by a (Black) female-juvenile suspect after the two argued. Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies responded and took over the incident/investigation, which occurred in their jurisdiction. Paramedics responded, but the victim declined medical attention. The suspect, who was not readily located, is further described as: 16-17 years of age; 5’ tall; 130 lbs.; wearing brown colored clothing.

While on patrol, an officer heard 7-8 gunshots coming from the nearby housing area at 70th Ave. and Lyon Way, Oakland. A short time later, the officer was flagged-down by witnesses who relayed that the (5) suspects, described as Black males wearing gray and red colored hoodies, were fleeing on 70th Ave. - towards International Blvd. A short time later, Oakland Police Officers safely detained two of the suspects. No shooting victims were reported, and it appears the suspects only fired into the air.

An anonymous patron reported a male suspect possibly engaged in a lewd act near the station on a pedestrian path. An officer located the male in a vehicle in the area. A female was also located nearby and determined to be with the male. During the contact, the female allowed the officer to retrieve her identification from the car. While getting her purse, the officer saw a handgun on the floor, near the driver. The driver was taken into custody for possession of the firearm and for having ammunition in close proximity to the handgun. The female was identified and released. The male was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for the weapons violations.
