A female patron reported that her purse was snatched while she was on the platform at Powell St. station. The offense occurred at 0745 hrs. and the suspect was described as a male, 19 yrs. of age, wearing a black jacket and black pants. The victim gave chase and recovered her purse and its contents after the suspect dropped it and fled.
A patron reported that her iPOD was stolen from her rear pocket by an adult male wearing a green jacket and blue baseball cap. Officers searched the platforms at both Montgomery Street and Powell Street stations in addition to trains that the suspect might have boarded without success.
In an incident that occurred on 8/19 at 2300 hrs., a female patron reported that an adult male snatched her cellphone from her hand as she stood on the platform awaiting a train. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.
A teenaged male took a purse/tote bag from an adult female victim, while on the escalator from the platform to the concourse level. The suspect fled the area, however, the property was found completely intact.
07-07-06 1815 hrs. A 34-year-old suspect called a cell-phone theft victim offering to sell her back her phone. BART police officers detained the suspect when he arrived to meet the victim. The suspect, already on parole for a narcotics offense, was arrested when he was found to be in possession of the stolen cell phone and crack cocaine packaged for sale.
A subject bumped into a female and picked a wallet from her purse. The victim realized her wallet was taken and demanded it back from the suspect, who complied. The victim reported the case after she got to work.
A patron reported that while he was in the station, his briefcase was stolen by two suspects described as being in their late teens to early 20's. The suspects fled the area prior to the arrival of responding officers.
A female patron was attempting to get her laptop out of her vehicle trunk when a male subject grabbed her purse and escaped on foot. She was not injured and an area check for the suspect was unsuccessful.
In a late report (occurred yesterday), the victim of a pocket pick reported that she was bumped while boarding a Daly City train at Civic Center Station between 1700 - 1730 hrs. Loss was a cell phone from her left front jacket pocket. No suspect description.
A patron on board an east-bound train approaching West Oakland Station had his laptop computer snatched from his possession by an adult male in his 20's who fled the train/station. Responding units set up a perimeter after the suspect was spotted fleeing into the yards near 9th and Center. UTL.
A suspect snatched an iPhone4 from the hands of a male victim on the train. The suspect then fled to the street with a witness chasing him. The suspect was described as a black male in his 20's, 5'7" tall, wearing a white beanie, a black or blue jacket with white trim. An officer located a male matching the suspect's description a short distance away. Three witnesses were brought to the scene and the witness who chased the suspect from the train positively identified the male detainee as the person who stole the phone. The detainee did not have any phones on his person when contacted by the officers. The detainee was taken into custody and transported to Lake Merritt Station. Further investigation and review of available video footage from the station resulted in the investigating officers concluding the detainee was not the person who stole the victim's phone, despite the positive identification by the witness. The detainee was released without further delay. The suspect in this case was not located. The video footage will be forwarded to detectives for further investigation.
