The train operator of a Dublin-bound train reported a person acting suspiciously with a camera and possibly taking pictures of BART trains or facilities near MW-6 in Oakland. Officers responded, but could not locate the suspect. The suspect was described as a White Male with dark brown hair and wearing a black hoodie. TSOC was notified about the suspicious activity.

 Grand Theft From Person / Use of Tear Gas

West Oakland - 1203-1560

Officers responded to the West Oakland station on a report of a cell phone snatch.  The victim was on a San Francisco bound train as it pulled into the station.  When the train doors opened, the suspect (BMJ, 15, red hat, blu sweater and jeans with paint splatter) snatched the victim's phone and walked off of the train.  The victim off-boarded the train and grabbed the suspect.  The victim forced the suspect to the ground and demanded his phone back.  The suspect was able to get up and spray the victim in the face with an unknown substance (possibly pepper spray).  The suspect ran down stairs and the victim followed.  The suspect fled the station.  Officers conducted an area check for the suspect with negative results.  The victim was not injured and declined medical.  The loss was an iPhone 4.  The investigating officer attempted to trace the phone, but it was turned off by the suspect.  Video was requested.

Officers responded to the station on a report of a fight between two males on a Richmond-bound train. A BART officer met the train and off-boarded the suspect and victim without incident. Two additional BART officers responded to the station to assist. The victim did not want to pursue a complaint.

Officers responded to the station on a report of a male with a gun handle sticking out of his front pant pocket.  Suspect description: WM, afro-style hair, blk tank top, blu jeans   The suspect boarded a Dublin/Pleasanton train which was held on Platform 2.  The BART officers, along with OPD officers coordinated a high-risk train search for the suspect, whom they located.  The suspect did not have a gun, but did have a tobacco pipe in his front pant pocket; and was subsequently identified and released.  Train delays (15-20 minutes) resulted from this police action.

Selling Without Permit / Stay-Away Order Arrest

An officer contacted a male suspect for selling a BART ticket(s) at the station without a permit.  Upon a records check, the suspect had a court “stay-away” order from the West Oakland BART station.  The suspect was arrested on the court order violation.  The arrestee was transported to Highland Hospital to be cleared for a medical condition and then was booked at the Santa Rita jail.

 Disturbing the Peace/Public Intoxication/Possession of Narcotics

West Oakland - 1203-0411

Patrons reported a male on board a Daly City bound train harassing a female and her child.  The female eventually struck the male in the face.  All parties off-boarded at West Oakland Station and the female and her child walked away from the station and were not located by responding officers.  The male remained at the station and created a disturbance in the paid area.  Responding officers detained the man, who attempted to walk away from the officers, while throwing away a plastic bag.  The bag was found to contain suspected marijuana.  The man was intoxicated and bleeding from the m0uth and nose.  The man's injuries were treated by paramedics on scene and he was taken into custody.  He required medical clearance at Highland Hospital.  Once cleared, he was booked at Santa Rita Jail for public intoxication and possession of more than one ounce of marijuana.

Felony Vandalism

West Oakland - 1203-0431

A male became involved in a fare dispute with the station agent and became enraged because the agent asked him to use his ticket in the fare gate to enter.  The man hit the glass window of the agent's booth, possibly with a cell phone in his hand, and the glass shattered.  The glass stayed in the frame, but the entire panel was shattered.  The man then fled on foot.  The agent was not injured and declined any medical assistance.  The agent recognized the man as someone who has evaded fare payment at West Oakland Station before.  Responding officers were unable to locate the man in the area.  The investigation is ongoing.

Patrons reported a person asleep on the train who appeared to have urinated on himself.  Officers made contact with the subject at the West Oakland Station.  A records check revealed a $30,000 narcotics warrant for his arrest.  The male was debriefed by the zone sergeant regarding BART related crimes/narcotics activity before being booked at Glenn Dyer Jail for the warrant.

The station agent at West Oakland notified two officers on scene of a subject who attempted to evade fare.  The officers detained the suspect (BF, 11/05/90).  The suspect refused to identify herself to the officers.  When officers tried to handcuff the suspect for refusing to ID, she became physically resistive.  The suspect was taken into custody and booked at Glenn Dyer Jail for obstructing and resisting an officer and she was cited for fare evasion.   1202-3827   L21.

A male suspect snatched an iPad from a female victim's hand while on a train at West Oakland Station.  The suspect fled on foot north from the station.  The victim off-boarded at Lake Merritt Station.  The suspect was described as a black male juvenile in his early teens, 4'11" tall, wearing a white baseball cap, black sweater, blue jeans and black & white tennis shoes.  Responding officers were unable to locate anyone matching the suspect's description.

A female victim had her iPhone 4 snatched from her hand by a male suspect while on a train approaching West Oakland Station.  The suspect ran from the train and fled on foot in an unknown direction.  The suspect was described as a black male in his 20's, about 5'4" tall, wearing all black clothing.  Responding officers were unable to locate the suspect.  The victim was not injured.

 Possession of Narcotics for Sales/Suspicious Circumstance

A female called to report a male suspect with a handgun in his backpack.  A detailed description of the male was given and responding officers were able to locate a male matching the description in front of the station.  Officers immediately recognized him as a male they had arrested for a similar case (1201-3437) about one week ago.  In that case, his wife had called to report that he had a gun, but no gun was found (he was eventually arrested for narcotics violations).  Today officers searched his person and backpack for a gun, but again, no gun was located. Narcotics for sales were recovered.  The male was determined to be on probation, so officers responded to his residence to conduct a search.  Detectives will be following up on possibly filing a complaint against the wife for making false police reports.  The male was booked at Glen Dyer Jail for possession of narcotics for sales and for committing a felony while out on bail (from last week's case).

 Battery / Possession of a Concealed Weapon

  An officer witnessed two women in a physical altercation near the hot-dog vendor at West Oakland station. The officer  separated the combatants at which time one of the suspects stated that the other  was carrying a knife.  The officer was able to detain one suspect, however the other suspect fled the scene. The detained suspect admitted to carrying a knife for protection. The officer recovered the knife and took her into custody for carrying a concealed dagger. The suspect said she knew the other suspect she was fighting with, but refused to identify her. Other responding units searched the area for the other suspect with negative results. The suspect was uninjured and was booked at Glenn Dyer Jail.

An intoxicated male on board a Dublin train challenged patrons to fight and then began physically fighting with several male patrons.  The intoxicated male sustained injuries from the fight.  A male patron on the train attempted to intervene and break up the fight to keep the intoxicated male from being seriously injured.  The intoxicated male turned on the good samaritan and began punching him.  The other males involved in the fight fled the scene when the train arrived at West Oakland Station.  Responding officers detained the original aggressor and the good samaritan made a citizen's arrest of him for battery.  The suspect was too intoxicated to book into jail, so he was issued a citation for battery on a transit passenger and public intoxication.  Both the suspect and the good samaritan were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries (cuts, bruises).

An adult male found a 15 year old male juvenile wandering around the West Oakland area and brought him to the station because he thought he was a runaway.  The juvenile was determined to be a runaway out of Santa Rosa and is on probation.  The juvenile said that he had been smoking “weed” recently.  The juvenile was transported to Children’s Hospital to be checked out.  The juvenile was cleared from the hospital and will be taken to the San Joaquin County Juvenile Center by A-Platoon.

Multiple stations were checked by officers and station agents in an attempt to locate a missing 80 year old male with dementia.  After a system-wide page was made, a patron reported seeing the male on a train approaching West Oakland Station.  The station agent located a man matching the missing person's description, but he shook his head "no" when asked if he was the missing person.  Because the missing man spoke little English and suffered from dementia, an officer was also dispatched to look for the man.  Resonding officers were unable to locate the man on the train being held.  Trains were delayed approximately 18 minutes.  A sergeant located the missing man at Concord Station at approximately 1420 hours.

Sick Patron/Train Delay

West Oakland - 1112-1729

A BART foreworker and an officer responded to check on a reported sick person aboard a Dublin/Pleasanton train.  They located an apparently intoxicated man, unconscious, breathing, and possibly suffering seizures.  The officer could not awaken the subject.  Oakland Fire Dept. and Paramedics Plus personnel arrived, removed the man from the train, and transported him to a hospital for treatment.  The man has not yet been identified.  The train was delayed for 16 minutes.

Officers responded to the station on a report of an intoxicated female suspect who had battered patrons on a SF bound train.  The suspect was allegedly boisterous on the train and then hit several patrons before being physically detained by an off-duty SFSD deputy.  The suspect had several abrasions had her face and was transported to Summit Medical Center.  A citizen’s arrest was made on the suspect by one victim for battery.  The suspect was issued a citation for battery at the hospital.

An officer was driving through the lot when he was flagged down by a female who was chasing another female.  The female doing the chasing told the officer that the other female had punched her in the face and taken her cellphone while they were in the bus zone.  The officer was able to detain the suspect nearby.  The suspect was in possession of the victim's cellphone.  It was determined that the two parties are known to each other.  The victim had a small abrasion on her cheek and wished to pursue a complaint against the suspect.  The cellphone was returned to the victim.  Investigators interviewed the suspect prior to her being booked into the Glen Dyer Jail for robbery.

 Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Collision

A female was walking through the parking lot when a minivan struck her and knocked her to the ground.  The female suffered a cut to the head and bruising to other parts of her body.  She was transported to Alameda Hospital for treatment of her non life-threatening injuries.  The male driver of the minivan was contacted at the scene by responding officers.  He is cooperating with the on-going collision investigation.

Delaying an Officer

During routine patrol of the platform, an officer observed an adult female spit on the platform.  The officer approached to advise her that it was against the law to spit in the station.  The female ignored the officer and spit on the platform again.  When the officer asked for identification and explained that she was being detained, the female ignored the officer and attempted to board a train.  The female was placed into handcuffs without incident, but refused to speak to the officers or identify herself.  She was eventually booked into the Santa Rita Jail for delaying an officer and spitting on BART property.

A white male adult wearing a black shirt and black pants was observed running along the track way at MW4, TBT.  Trains were held with power down as Officers searched the area.  Track inspections were conducted without incident.  There was approximately a 45 minute train delay.  TSOC was notified.  The subject was not located at the scene.  However, a possible associated vehicle was stopped.  The investigation is ongoing.
