A victim was aboard a Fremont bound train and had his Apple MacBook sitting on his lap. When the doors opened at the South Hayward Station, a suspect grabbed the victim's laptop and fled off the train. The victim pursued but the suspect was able to escape from the station.
A victim reported that a suspect (BM, teens, grey hoodie) grabbed her purse from her possession and fled out of a Fremont bound train at the station. The victim stayed on the train and the suspect fled over the platform wall and ran from the station. Officers did not locate the suspect, but were able to track her phone and recovered it in her purse nearby. Her wallet was missing from the purse. The victim was not injured during the incident. Train/station video will be requested.
A BART Contractor reported the theft of a Hertz rental "dump truck", a white 2015 F-650, which was parked in the lost adjacent to the South Hayward Yard between the hours of 1300 on 5/6/16, and 0630 on 5/9/16.
Officers responded to a report of a male Hispanic asleep on the platform. The man was located and record checks showed that he had an outstanding $20,000 arrest warrant for DUI, held by Fremont PD. The man was arrested on his warrant and was booked at the Hayward Jail.
A victim reported that their vehicle had been burglarized while parked at the station between 0645 hours on 4/29 and 1732 hours on 4/30. The suspect(s) gained entry by smashing the driver's side wing window and ransacked the interior, but took nothing. They also damaged the ignition in an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle. The vehicle was processed for evidence by the investigating officer.
A victim reported that a suspect (BF, 16-18, tall, black sweater) grabbed her purse, which contained her wallet, ID, cash, keys and her laptop computer and fled out of the station. An area check for the suspect was conducted, but she was not located. Some of the victim's property was located in the surrounding area by Hayward PD and returned to the victim. Station video will be requested.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a female suspect who threw a large tree branch at two women (who are at the station on a regular basis, handing out religious materials). The victims were not struck or injured. Officers arrived and contacted the female suspect and recovered the large tree branch. The victims had left the area, but left their contact information. Officers were unable to get in touch with the victims, but they determined that the suspect was a danger to others and in need of psychiatric evaluation. The officers placed the suspect on a psychiatric hold with criminal charges pending and issued her a prohibition order. They will continue to attempt to get in touch with the victims.
Two victims were at the station to purchase an item advertised on Craigslist, but the victims were met by two suspects who robbed the victims at gun point before fleeing in a vehicle. The loss included the victims' phones and cash. Responding officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle nearby in Hayward and evidence was collected. The suspects were described as #1 Black Male 5'10", 180 pounds, wearing blue jeans and white shoes. #2 Black Male, 6'3", 180 pounds, wearing sunglasses and a blue hoodie.
A victim reported the theft of their silver-colored 2002 Honda Accord’s catalytic converter while the vehicle was parked at the station between 0755 and 1400 hours. An officer contacted the victim and completed a report.
A victim reported that their white 2014 Toyota Corolla was burglarized while parked in stall #142 between 1030 and 1550 hours. The victim reported no items were taken as a result of the burglary, but noted there were signs of tampering with the vehicle’s ignition, and which rendered the vehicle inoperable. The investigating officer was unable to determine how entry was made into the vehicle.
