An adult female reported being abducted at gunpoint into a light blue mini-van by a Black male in his 20s wearing dreadlocks while sitting on a bench in the free area of the station. The victim was sexually assaulted while in the van, which was occupied by 3 males and a female. After driving around for a few hours, the victim was released in downtown Oakland where she then called for the police. The victim sustained minor external injuries, and was released from the hospital early the next morning. The investigation is on going. 1003-0767 L12.
A 25-year-old female was the victim of a strongarm robbery in the bus zone. The suspects were four males, 18-21 years old, who escaped on foot. The victim sustained bruises to her face, but declined medical treatment. An officer recovered the victim's purse while searching for the suspects. The loss is a camera, MP3 player, and cell phone.
An adult male was apprehended while in the process of attempting to saw a lock off of a secured bicycle. The subject, who is on active probation and was contacted for a similar offense with this agency in the past, was booked accordingly.
Multiple witnesses flagged down a Community Service Officer to report suspects stealing bicycles at the bike racks. Three suspects fled the area upon seeing the CSO. Responding officers detained one juvenile and one adult male suspect attempting to flee the scene. One stolen bike was recovered. The juvenile was issued a citation and released to a parent. The adult suspect was found to be in possession of a dangerous weapon and was booked at Glen Dyer Jail for the weapon and theft charges.
A 32-year-old male parolee-at-large fled from a stolen vehicle after a traffic stop. After a lengthy foot pursuit and search of the neighborhood, the suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of Oakland police. The suspect was booked at Glenn Dyer Jail for parole violation, a felony reckless-driving warrant, auto theft, and delaying/obstructing a peace officer.
A female victim reported that four females forcibly grabbed her purse from her at the Fruitvale Village on 35th and East 12th near the Fruitvale Station. The suspects fled into a nearby store where two of them were later apprehended by BART Police officers. The victim positively identified the two suspects, and the case was turned over to Oakland Police. 0909-2271 L12.
Officers responded to the station to assist the Oakland Police in an area search for a man armed with a gun. The subject was believed to have been in the area of the station. One train was held with negative results. A gun was recovered by OPD in their jurisdiction.
Officers searched the station and surrounding area for a male who claimed to be armed with gun in his backpack. A possible suspect was spotted in the area but responding officers were unable to locate him.
BPD officers observed Oakland PD officers in a foot pursuit of four male juveniles wanted in an attempted strong arm robbery. Two were apprehended, one by OPD and one by BPD when a sergeant found him hiding beneath a car in the parking structure. The latter suspect was turned over to the Oakland Police.
Officers on patrol in the Fruitvale Village observed a group of people disturbing the peace by challenging each other to fight and throwing objects. One person fled into the station and was detained. It was determined that the adult male who was detained had gang affiliations and had been displaying gang colors that had provoked the other people involved in the disturbance. The remaining crowd dispersed and the suspect was released.
Officers on patrol at the Fruitvale Village were notified by a merchant of a theft that had just occurred. The officers located the adult male suspect who was immediately combative and resisted their lawful detention. The suspect was taken into custody and arrested for theft, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property that was located incident to the arrest.
An officer on patrol contacted a subject who spat on the ground. The subject became belligerent and continued to spit, then challenged the officer to arrest him. The officer obliged and the subject was booked.
An officer on patrol happened upon an adult male on the ground in front of a commercial business in the plaza area. When the officer tried to ascertain the subject's condition, the latter sprang up and ran from the officer who then gave chase into the paid area of the station. After resisting the officer's attempt to handcuff him, the subject then ran to the platform level where he refused to submit despite verbal warnings. The officer then physically subdued the subject who acted erratically. The subject was transported to a local hospital on a psychiatric hold.
An elderly male was forcibly robbed of his wallet by a male teen as the former was about to board a bus at the bus stop area. The victim suffered a bloody nose when he fell to the ground and fell on his face during the commission of the crime. The suspect fled on foot.
The victim of an armed robbery at the intersection of 37th Ave. and San Leandro St. reported the inicdent at Fruitvale Station. Responding officers obtained a description of the suspects and their vehicle, a dark four-door sedan, and conducted the initial area check. The suspects were described as two males, one of whom was wearing a mask. Loss was $250 cash. The victim eventually declined a report and OPD was cancelled from responding.
The department's Tactical Team was deployed to address a civil protest at the Fruitvale Station. The demonstration lasted approximately two hours and resulted in no arrests. Assisting in the policing of this event was the Oakland Police Department's Mobile Field Force. L18
An adult male reported that he was in the passenger pick-up zone when an adult male approached him and asked him for the time. The subject eventually brandished a handgun from beneath his jacket and demanded money. The victim stated that he began yelling at the suspect who fled on foot towards San Leandro Street. An extensive search for the suspect proved negative.
An adult-male patron reported that two men, one armed with a shotgun and one carrying a pistol, had brandished their firearms in the bus zone. Responding officers took both suspects into custody nearby. One loaded, sawed-off shotgun was recovered. One suspect was arrested for possession of an illegal, concealed and loaded firearm. The other was arrested for public intoxication. Both were to be booked into Dyer Jail.
Several times during the afternoon and evening, groups of a dozen or more teenagers and young adults gathered in the free area. They expressed anger regarding last night's homicide and shouted at BART employees. A BART police sergeant and 13 BART police officers were posted at the station. Oakland police maintained a presence in the vicinity of the station and the deceased robbery suspect's residence until 2216 hrs.
Oakland and BART police determined that a robbery and homicide that happened 20 minutes earlier occurred in the station-parking lot near the garage. Two 18-year-old men had robbed a 23-year-old man of his property. One suspect wielded a knife and the other claimed to have a gun. The robbery victim got control of the knife and, in an apparent act of self defense, stabbed one of the robbers, who later died. The second suspect was arrested for robbery and murder.
