An officer detained a subject for fare evasion and discovered the subject had a warrant for his arrest. The subject was reprimanded for fare evasion and booked at the jail for the warrant.
Plainclothes BART officers noticed a male breaking a second story window of a building from the inside of the building at 21st/Webster Street. Citizens reported that the male was a burglary suspect who was trying to escape the building. OPD arrived and created a perimeter around the building. Hours later, they requested a BART K-9 and one responded. During a search of the building with the K-9, a suspect was located and taken into custody.
Oakland Police requested the closure of the 12th Street station as demonstrators set fires at street side, above the station. The station was closed, as a safety measure, and train service was minimally impacted as the last hour or so of train service remained. BART Police sergeants and officers responded and assisted Oakland Officers with monitoring the demonstrators, who eventually dispersed. No injuries to police personnel or demonstrators were reported, and BART property was not damaged. L10
A victim reported the theft of their bike from the Berkeley Station. The bike was secured to a bike rack inside the station with a cable lock. Loss was reported as $150.00.
A patron left his backpack unattended on the platform at Berkeley Station and returned to find that his MacBook Pro laptop computer and Bose headphones were missing from the backpack. There is no known suspect information; however the officer requested surveillance video.
Officers in Oakland responded to a report of the possible parental abduction of a 4 year old where the male suspect and child were last seen on a train headed toward the Coliseum station. BART and Alameda County officers later spotted the suspect and child crossing the street at 5th and Broadway in Oakland, and took them into custody without incident. The case was turned over to Alameda County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers on patrol near the 12th Street Station were flagged down by an Oakland Ambassador who wanted to report that he was the victim of a crime. The victim reported that the suspect had just battered him and brandished a knife in a threatening manner before fleeing on foot. Officers searched the area and located the suspect nearby. The suspect was discovered to be on probation and is a registered sex offender. The suspect was turned over to the Oakland Police Department who responded to investigate the incident.
