A woman reported that her 1999 2-dr Volkswagon Beetle was burglarized today, while parked in stall #405, between 0950-2040 hrs. The driver’s door window had been smashed and the car stereo had been stolen. The investigating officer photographed the vehicle and processed it for latent prints.
While on patrol in the parking lot, an officer was contacted by a woman screaming that someone had just stolen her cell phone and her boyfriend was chasing the suspect. After a brief pursuit, the officer was able to detain the suspect with the boyfriend’s assistance. The suspect was positively identified by the victim as the person who had taken her cell phone while at the Ashby station when she was attempting to sell it to him via a Craigslist arrangement. The suspect was placed under arrest for theft. The suspect immediately confessed to taking the phone, but a search for the cell phone proved negative. Detectives were notified and interviewed the suspect. 1031 L12
A patron reported their white beach cruiser bike had been removed from the bike racks at the station between 1100-1915 hours. The suspect defeated the cable lock and removed the bike and lock from the scene.
Officers responded to the Ashby BART station on a report of a fight in progress. The first responding officer, who was nearby, observed the fight occurring in the flea market. The parties were separated by the officer and citizens. The investigation revealed that the suspect and victim had been involved in a long-term dating relationship that recently ended. The suspect had sent the victim threatening text messages before confronting her in the flea market. The suspect started a physical confrontation with the victim who in turn defended herself. The suspect sustained facial injuries as a result of the fight. The victim was not injured. A records check of both parties revealed a valid restraining order on file protecting the victim from the suspect. The suspect was placed under arrest for violation of a court order and domestic battery. The suspect was debriefed by a Sergeant before being transported to Alta Bates Hospital for treatment of her injuries. The suspect was medically cleared and booked into the Berkeley City Jail.
The station agent called to report a male harassing patrons at the station. An officer made contact with the suspect and determined that he was intoxicated in public. The male was booked into the Berkeley City Jail for Public Intoxication.
A silver 10 speed Trek Bontarager bicycle was stolen between 1630 and 2130 hours. The victim used a U-Bolt lock on the front rim and a cable lock on the frame. Upon his return only the front was still locked to the bike rack. The cable lock was there but had been cut. Victim was unable to provide serial numbers for the bike.
The station agent interrupted a male wearing an bright yellow hooded sweatshirt attempting to steal a bike from the west side bike racks. Suspect fled into the station and out an emergency gate. The witness saw a tool in his hand but was unable to clarify what it was. The suspect was UTL upon the arrival of officers.
A 24 speed, Giant brand, Yukon model bicycle valued at $700 was taken from the Ashby Station. The bike was locked in the free area at 1215 hours. When the owner returned at 1930 hours the bike and the Kryptonite cable lock were missing. The serial numbers were entered into APS and the video hotline notified.
An officer on patrol located a black 2004 Ford Taurus parked in stall #414 with the driver's window smashed. The officer was unable to determine if there was any loss (it did appear that entry had been made), but left a card for the owner to contact us upon his/her return. The vehicle had moisture on the outside, so the vehicle was not processed for prints, but photos were taken.
An officer was patrolling on-board a train approaching the Ashby station when he saw a male suspect rolling a marijuana cigarette. The officer off-boarded the suspect at the Ashby station without incident. Upon a records check, the suspect had an outstanding arrest warrant for DUI out of San Mateo County. The suspect was arrested and booked on the arrest warrant, and for possession of the marijuana cigarette.
An anonymous patron reported a male suspect was acting “obnoxious” and bothering patrons on the train; and the suspect off-boarded at Ashby station. Suspect description: BM, 50’s, blue and white jacket. An officer was at the station and his attention was drawn to the suspect because the suspect was “yelling” and swinging an umbrella in an offensive manner as he exited the station. The suspect was contacted without incident and determined to be intoxicated in public. Upon a records check, the suspect had a no bail warrant for public intoxication and another no bail warrant for battery. The suspect was arrested and booked for public intoxication, and on the outstanding warrants. The suspect is also on probation out of BART PD for public intoxication.
An officer was contacted regarding a minor, non-injury traffic collision which occurred at the station. The apparent responsible party hit a parked vehicle with his vehicle. A record check was conducted on the responsible party and he had an outstanding arrest warrant for DUI ($18K) out of ACSO; and was subsequently arrested and booked on the arrest warrant.
Officers were dispatched to the Ashby station to conduct a welfare check on a subject who reportedly had been in the station for three hours. According to the station agent, the subject had personal belongings strewn about the floor of the station. A records check of the subject revealed an outstanding no bail warrant for a sex offense out of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The subject was taken into custody for the warrant and booked into the Sant Rita County jail.
An officer contacted a female in the station bus zone who appeared suspicious. Upon a records check, the female had a court “stay-away” order from the Ashby BART station, and was subsequently arrested for violation of the court order.
Officers responded to Ashby Station concerning a woman who was panhandling and bothering patrons as they tried to buy BART fare tickets. A records check of the detainee (BFA, 5’6”, 140) revealed she had an active court order to stay-away from the Ashby Station. She was taken into custody for the violation of the court order and booked at Santa Rita Jail for 166(a)(4) pc. 1203-0136 L21.
An officer contacted a female suspect for aggressive panhandling in the station. Upon a records check, the suspect had a court stay-away order from the Ashby BART station. The suspect was arrested and booked for violation of the court order. 1202-3672 L10.
Dispatch received a CHP 911 phone transfer from a female victim who reported a male suspect hit her in the face and stole her bicycle on the pedestrian walkway near the corner of Ashby and Adeline Streets. The suspect fled on the victim’s yellow mountain bike. The suspect description: BM, 20’s, blk sweatshirt, jeans, blk knit cap. Berkeley PD was notified immediately of the crime. An officer conducted an area search for the suspect with negative results. The victim declined any medical attention.
