A black male suspect dressed in all dark clothing reached into the sweatshirt pocket of V-1 and grabbed her iPhone. V-1 and the suspect struggled over the phone until the suspect was able to gain control of it. V-1's husband, V-2, chased the suspect in the station until the suspect turned and challenged V-2, simulating he had a gun. The suspect then punched V-2 in the face and fled the station on foot. The suspect dropped V-1's phone and V-2 recovered it. Officers inside the station observed V-2 chasing the suspect. V-2 advised the officers what had just occurred and the officers chased after the suspect. SFPD was notified and assisted in the foot pursuit. The suspect ran into a business located at 1105 Market Street where he was taken into custody after a struggle with SFPD officers. V-2 positively identified the suspect. The suspect was taken to SF General Hospital after he was observed self-inflicting injuries to his own face. V-2 sustained minor injuries to his eye and declined medical attention. V-1 was not injured. Video from inside the business was viewed and is in the process of being recovered. The on-call detective was notified and responded to the hospital to interview the suspect. The suspect will be booked into the SF County jail on the above listed charges when medically cleared.
