Psychiatric Detention/Train Delay

Feb. 2, 2017, 10:24 p.m.

Case: 1702-0148

A station agent called to report a male entering the trackway on the platform #2 side at the north end of the station. The central supervisor also reported receiving an alarm notification of a person entering the trackway and saw a shirtless male entering the trackway on the #2 side. The station agent also reported that the male was in possession of a hammer. Trains were held out and officers responded to the platform. They spotted the male after he had crossed over to the #1 trackway and were able to convince him to drop the hammer and come back onto the platform. Once on the platform, the male resisted being detained and was "tased" and physically restrained. Medical aid arrived and he was placed on a psychiatric evaluation hold after it was determined that he was a danger to himself. A lieutenant responded to conduct the use of force investigation. Three officers reported receiving minor injuries as a result of the struggle. TSOC was notified (Case #TSA-02-03181-17).
