Attempt Kidnapping

BART officers responded to the station regarding an adult male suspect who attempted to kidnap a 3 year old child. Berkeley Police officers responded as well, and eventually detained the suspect at the station. Witnesses and the child’s grandmother told officers that while in the station’s flea market, the suspect grabbed and attempted to walk away with the child before being confronted by a security guard. The suspect then released the child, who was unharmed. BART officers arrested the suspect for attempting to kidnap the child, and a sergeant responded to approve the arrest. A detective responded as well. Subsequently, the suspect was booked into the county jail for attempt kidnapping.
