Hayward
Case: 0805-1192

A fire started in a power substation at the Hayard Yard due to an electrical malfunction. The 1000v DC system is believed to have fed back into the Tower's 130v AC. A fire then started in the Tower and caused a considerable amount of damage to all Tower systems. Hayward FD arrived and put out the fire and cleared the Tower of smoke. A preliminary investigation by the FD's chief inspector corroborated the above. Revenue service from Bay Fair south was terminated. A second fire later started at the power substation adjacent to the Tower when there was an attempt to restore power. This fire was also extinguished by Hayward FD. As of this writing (14:30), service south of Bay Fair still has not resumed.
