An adult female victim contacted Union City police at a motel in Newark to report she had been forced into a van at the Union City BART station earlier in the day and then held inside a motel room against her will. Two suspects were detained by responding UCPD officers. BART officers responded, along with detectives and it was determined the crime began at the BART station, so our department took over the investigation. Detectives determined the two suspects lured the victim, who worked as a professional escort, to the BART station and then forced her into their van. The suspects, an adult female who was the victim's escort manager, along with a male accomplice, were unsatisfied with the victim's work performance and decided to kidnap the victim in order to teach her a lesson. The victim managed to escape from the hotel room and sought help from the hotel manager, who called police. The victim was not injured. The suspects' van was impounded at the hotel and the room was searched after the male suspect gave consent. Both suspects were ultimately booked at Santa Rita Jail for kidnapping and conspiracy. The victim was referred to victim's assistance at a nearby shelter.
