A victim reported a suspect stole an iPhone from her purse while they were inside the station. The victim said she had a brief struggle with the suspect as she held on to her purse. The suspect then went into the purse to take the phone, and then fled out the station toward Frank Ogawa Plaza. A few minutes later, the phone was tracked going toward San Francisco, possibly on a train. At the Powell Street Station, officers responded to intercept the approaching train. The officers spotted the suspected based on the description given by the victim, and placed him into custody after a brief foot pursuit. The suspect was positively identified by the victim, who was placed under arrest for robbery and resisting arrest. No injuries were reported by the victim, suspect, or officers. A lieutenant arrived at the scene to approve the arrest and detectives interviewed the suspect, who confessed to the robbery.
